Week 2 did not fail to disappoint. All cobwebs were blown away in week 1 and there were some terrific encounters on the field.
First up this week was mixed. League newcomers Champagne Rugby started slowly and allowed the Untouchables to gain an early 4-1 lead. However, once they found their flow came back and in the end there was nothing to separate these two with a 5-5 draw.
Meanwhile over on the Pitch B, it was an all BroTown affair with the intra-club game of Mako v Patu. In the end, Patu had just enough in the tank to take the spoils 9-7.
In the Men’s division, it was like semi-finals night. All teams were out in force with great sub benches, which resulted in games of a very high tempo and pace. It certainly made the referee team work to keep up with everything happening. Following last week’s draw against the UntouchaBulls, Satwa Seagulls this week went up against the UntouchaBulls Legends. The Legends put in a great performance and held the Seagulls for long periods of the game. But the Seagulls found their wings and came out 8-1 winners – however, they were made to work hard for the win.
The UntouchaBulls coming off the back of a draw last week with the Seagulls made it 2 draws for 2 with a 4-4 against an ever-improving Exiles team. It was end to end stuff and great to watch. FFP Men, who are just getting the band back together, came up against old sparing partners BroTown Patu. When these two meet it is impossible to predict what may happen. All you know is it will be close, and it was. BroTown were made to work for their win, 7-6.
Last word to the UntouchaBelles, the all ladies team who are pitching into the social side of the Men’s comp. They were up against their good friends and occasional training partners Warriors. The Belles had just enough in the tank to come away with a 6-5 win. Well, done ladies!
Round 3 next week… if the games have been this close and entertaining in week 2, wel, we are in for one hell of a ride over the next 8 week.
For the first 3 weeks of the league, we are running the Men’s division without leaderboards until teams determine whether they want to play social or competitive divisions.
